Wind River is an Intel-based OS for smart cash register devices, running a stable version of Chromium. The Launcher app lets end users and technical users use and manage the device easily.
Challenge
Chromium has no user interface for accessing applications and settings. There are three user levels: retail owner and cashier (end users), technical user and system admin. The device and POS device also need to register with a cloud-based management system, and the platform needed an app store for downloading and using client apps.

- Dev and business team interviews
- Define requirement and base functionality
- Setting goals and objectives
- Creating user journeys, stories, flows for 3 type users
- Creating wireframes for the launcher and app store
- Low-fidelity prototypes
- High-fidelity design
- User testing
- Developed from scratch with HTML5/CSS3/Javascript
- Ported the system to the PhoneGap framework for the mobile app
What are the goals of the project?
Register cash register and POS devices to the cloud ecosystem, and manage device settings, applications and the app store remotely.
